This week I’d like to direct you to a really important organisation when it comes to conservation - the ICCA Consortium. As I said last week, Indigenous peoples are key actors in the work towards preserving global biodiversity. Up to 80% of global biodiversity resides in Indigenous territories - we must recognise this and act on it.
Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas (ICCAs) are places that Indigenous peoples manage, with the aim of preserving their precious cultural and biological diversity. The ICCA Consortium aims to protects these areas from exploitative actions such as logging, mining, and industrial farming.
This 20 minute film gives an insight into some ICCAs around the world, how the people there live and how they manage their ecosystems sustainably. It is a beautiful and inspiring glimpse at how people live in harmony with nature, so I highly recommend it!
