The Ultimate Eco Adventure! 2 Months Volunteering in Costa Rica

Hi everyone!

It’s been a while but I’m back to updating this blog again. I just wanted to give a quick life update before getting back into my normal kind of posts.

In the time I’ve been away, I've graduated from university, done some work in COVID clinics and the hospitality industry and then spent the most incredible two months traveling in Costa Rica by myself!

I travelled with the ecotourism company, GoEco, who helped plan my trip from beginning to end, all with the most friendly and speedy assistance.

First, I spent a week in San José (Costa Rica’s capital) at the Costa Rican Language Academy where I had five days of intense Spanish lessons. It was a perfect start to my trip and a great way to ease myself into the new life I'd be living for the next couple of months. After that, I worked in an animal rescue centre in Alajuela for two weeks. I got to look after a massive range of animals including sloths, monkeys, parrots, deer and puppies! Then, I took a long bus journey to Ostional, which is a small town on the Pacific coast, where I spent six weeks volunteering at a turtle conservation project. We would patrol the beach every night looking for turtle tracks and then try to find the turtles. Once we did we would wait for them to dig nests and lay their eggs, collecting important data for SINAC (National System of Conservation Areas) so that the turtle population could be monitored. Lastly, I spent a week in Tamarindo with my friends from home and went on a sunset boat tour, did ziplining and tried some surfing.

In my next few posts, I’m going to write down in a lot more depth each stage of my trip so stay tuned for that. I had the most amazing and life changing time and for anyone considering travelling to Costa Rica or doing any kind of ecotourism project, I couldn’t recommend it enough!
